Apart from fashion, handmade pieces without season nor time, forever.
Craftsmanship, through the study of different types of materials like cloth, paper, plastic and recycled materials, shades off in design.
Art and creativity like a group of ideas and materials: this is the air you breathe wearing a neckless, a bracelet or an earring made by Franca Goppion of Treviso.
Franca, when did you decide to become a bijoux creator?
When I came back in Treviso, leaving Milan and my job for staying with my son and my husband, I needed a lot of flexibility in the schedules, and under the advice of a friend i began making accessories, that until then I only made for me, and that had always been my passion.
How did you choose the name FRAGOLAB?
FRAGOLAB (FRAncaGOppionLABoratory), was an invention of my husband, which he came up with when I told him I wanted to open a laboratory for myself. It didn’t take long for him to come up with the name, which I immediately liked.
Which are your favorite materials to work with?
I particularly like to work with cloth, paper, plastic, recycled materials and everything else that teases my fantasy.
Which are your favorite pieces of the collection?
In each collection there are some pieces that i feel more mine, that I always wear with pleasure and that I keep finding funny through the years.
You lived a lot of years in Milan. How do you live in Treviso, now that you decided to settle here?
I don’t really like thinking of having settled. I live well in Treviso now, but I always like going back to Milan. I studied, worked and lived there for 20 years, I have tight bonds with a lot of people and places there.
Do you occasionally use some places of Treviso for taking inspiration for your bijoux?
Not particularly for bijoux, but the fish market and other fruit and vegetables markets inspired the graphics of most of my T-shirt collections. From the chicory of Treviso to sardines with parsley.
What do you do every day to tease your creativity?
I observe what surrounds me, I like watching other people, visiting exhibitions and museums and taking inspiration from objects that sometimes have nothing to do with jewels.
Could you tell us something about your future plans?
I would have the desire of making FRAGOLAB more known, even abroad, and being able of working only on the creative part.
These are some of FRAGOLAB’s collaborations: bijoux made for the art exhibition dedicated to “Arcimboldo at The Royal Palace” ( Milan 2011), bijoux and t-shirts for the exhibitions “Expressionism” (Passariano 2009/2011), “From Vermeer to Kandinsky” (Rimini 2012), “Van Gogh and Gauguin’s voyage” (2011/2012), “From Raffaello to Picasso” (Vicenza 2012/2013), “From Botticelli to Matisse” (Verona 2013), necklesses (unique pieces) made with parts of corkscrews for the Farmitaly company, bijoux and T-shirts drawn for the San Simone wine company.
Unmissable a visit at the FRAGOLAB atelier in Treviso’s historic centre, Viale Cadorna, 10.
